“When I saw the report, I was stunned to say the least”: Russian war veteran explains how Ukraine’s war situation was overlooked for Putin
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu with President Vladimir Putin (file photo) Russia’s military leadership is deliberately lying to President Vladimir Putin about what is happening on the battlefield in Ukraine. Corresponding reports have recently been accumulating from both Russia and the West.
For example, a Russian war veteran wrote reports from the front in the Telegram channel “Veterans Notes”. “This war afraid is a complete lie at all levels. False reports about the real situation are constantly coming to light,” he says on a pro-Russian channel.
As a result, he himself saw a report to the Kremlin about the unit he visited for two weeks. “When I saw the report, I was stunned to say the least,” the veteran continues. “Because in that unit, things are more than that.” His explanation: Reports at all levels of the hierarchy are whitewashed “so it doesn’t really look that bad.”
Information cannot be independently verified; However, similar assessments have been expressed more recently. Several Russian military bloggers have criticized the Russian Ministry of Defense for making more fraudulent claims. A top Russian parliamentarian recently called on the military to stop “lying”. Despite the severe backlash, he criticized the Russian Defense Ministry’s reports as remaining unchanged.
And indeed: since the beginning of the war, the Russian military leadership has rarely acknowledged the setbacks of its own troops. For example, the Kremlin has downplayed the death toll of a New Year’s attack on a Russian military base and framed it as a reprisal attack in which 600 Ukrainian soldiers were said to have been killed. According to an investigation by Reuters news agency reporters, among others, the attack only hit an empty school, so there were no casualties.
