Children died after drowning in Lakefront Beach at FGCU

Two children died after drowning in a Florida Gulf Coast University lake on July 4.

FGCU President Mike Martin confirmed the deaths in a message to the campus community. Children were found on FGCU's lakefront beach.

“Yesterday we experienced a tragic incident on campus, two children drowned in Lake Como (North Lake Village).

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and we thank the first responders from several agencies for their heroic efforts,” Martin said.

Rescue crews were called to the area of ​​12151 FGCU Parkway just after 2 p.m. On Monday.

Both children, aged under 10, were in critical condition after being pulled from the water, but the incident has since been treated as a death investigation.
